NICE*DAY #7: MAYOR FOR THE DAY

On Thursday, May 4th HANDF granted a “Mayor for a Day” Nice*Day.  Rather than the town where they lived, the dad picked Minneapolis as he grew up there, worked there and it always felt like home to him.

First up was JonnyPops HQ to pick-up some special treats for the family to hand out to workers at City Hall.  THANK YOU JonnyPops for providing the JonnyPops to give out.  The JonnyPops were delicious and brought smiles to many city workers!

“Mayor Dave” and family handed out a huge cooler of JonnyPops at City Hall.  The family had a great team learning about what each of the departments do while putting big smiles on worker’s faces.

Next step on Mayor Dave’s tour was the Station 14 firehouse.  After playing on the firetruck, Mayor Hodges and Mayor Dave held press conference.  Mayor Hodges declared it David Weinlick Day in Minneapolis and named him Mayor for a Day.  The event was covered by local media and family, friends and even a protester-in-jest joined the event.  ​

After the conclusion of the press conference, Mayor Dave and family headed down the firepole and went for a ride on a fire truck throughout the neighborhood.  Thank you to the Fire Chief and all the firefighters who were wonderful hosts.  What a wonderful team the city has taking care of its residents!

Next the family traveled to Mueller Park, a park that Mayor Dave grew up playing in.  A big thanks to the Park Board for helping us find space for one more tree in the park.  Thanks to the wonderful staff, we all learned about all that is needed to take care of the new spruce that they planted.

Last stop was Giordano’s for a delicious family dinner of Chicago style pizza.
