These Loving Wings grants are designed to provide a little bit of financial relief with the extra expenses that come with navigating cancer care as a parent of young children. When will GRant APPLICATIONS BE available?
Applications will be open to families with a parent undergoing cancer treatment and at least one dependent child age 12 and under from August 4 to August 18, 2026. Applications will be available on handf.org and from social workers at local cancer centers and organizations.

Loving Wings grant applications are available to families that meet Nice*Day criteria
WHAT DO GRANTS COVER?
HANDF's Loving Wings grants are designed to cover costs specifically unique to being a parent undergoing cancer treatment. Our primary focus is providing grants to cover the costs of children’s activities (sports, arts, academic) to enable kids to continue to participate in activities that keep them connected to their friends and community, letting them keep a little bit of normal in their lives.

DO YOU PAY FOR HOCKEY?
We know, the cost for hockey and club/travel sports can be so overwhelming when there are medical bills to pay for. To maximize our initial reach, we will only be able to consider requests for a few months of coverage for year round activities.
We have found athletic and arts organizations to be extremely supportive for families during their journeys. Never hesitate to reach out to your child’s organization or team to see if they have discounts, scholarships or fundraising opportunities available.

WHEN WILL gRANTS BE AWARDED?
Loving Wings grants will be semi-annual, designed to follow the calendar of extracurricular activity registrations. Initial grants will be distributed in September 2026, with the next cycle coming in Winter 2027.

where can i donate specifically to the loving wings fund?
The Lovings Wings fund has received its initial seed funding and is now open to all donors. We anticipate there to be more need than funds, so 100% of every dollar you donate helps us to meet that need.

WHY LOVING WINGS?
HANDF’s founder started her first charity 20 years ago, Loving Wings, dedicated to encouraging random acts of kindness. It never took off but she never really lost that love for giving back and used the lessons she learned to make Have a Nice Day Foundation what it is today. The name and namesake song gained even more meaning when a yellow butterfly followed her for miles down the trail after a pregnancy loss & continued to make annual summer visits. In honor of her child’s role in starting HANDF, we decided to continue its legacy, naming our grants designed to brighten the days of families fighting cancer Loving Wings.
